“I DERIVED MY BRAND NAME DATJOBLESSBOI FROM INSULT.“- BABALOLA IDOWU

The CEO of DJB Media and Digital TV Broadcast Limited , Babalola Idowu Olumide David, has come a long way from his days of humble beginning as a hustling celebrity publicist and blogger. He has been an illustrious example of how hard work pays. However, many still query how he ended up with a somewhat odd name of Datjoblessboi, from where he derived the acronym DJB for his business name.

Recently, he provided clarifications, saying: “Datjoblessboi was derived from an insult I got from a lady in 2013 who referred to me as a “jobless youth” because of my numerous mass broadcasts back then on BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) promoting brands and public figures.”

He continued: “Coincidentally, I had been searching for a brand name. So on that fateful day, after I had sent one of my numerous broadcast messages on BBM, a lady popped up and sent me an abusive message tagging me as “being jobless for sending numerous broadcasts.” I replied to her, “I am That Jobless boy Getting Paid.” Indeed,  all I did back then was send broadcast messages advertising businesses and promoting products while working from home on my phone and I got paid. So in a way, I wasn’t jobless. That was how I got the name DatjoblessboiGettinPaid. Today, it has grown into a popular international brand.”

Indeed, he has proven his mettle as one of the top professionals in strategic marketing communications (public relations, promotions, branding and advertising) for showbiz, beside being a prolific content producer.

On how he became such a multidimensional professional, Mr. Babalola Idowu attributed his versatility to his God-given talents. “I did not cut corners. I did not allow any of my talent to waste. You know, talent alone is not enough; I put in years of hard work; and I was determined. In addition, relentless prayers helped a lot.  That is how I have been able to develop and convert my skills and expertise into money-making ventures,” he enthused.

Reflecting on 2020 as a Covid-19 ravaged year, the native of Ipesi-Akoko, Ondo State, declared solemnly: “Really, Covid 19 affected our workforce, operations , finances and our production at DJBTV.”

In the same breath, he unveiled the five-year plan of his wave-making media: “Our mission at DJB is to become the biggest promoter of African artistry, creativity, businesses, notable figures and culture. Our vision is to create, distribute and monetize engaging visuals, promotional and economic sustainable contents for individuals, celebrities, NGOs, corporate organizations and governmental bodies.”

Babalola, who has a UNICAF BSC. Computer Science in view, also has a trove of professional certificates and has worked with notable brands and personalities across the entertainment & business spectrum in Nigeria , Ghana, Liberia , Sierra Leone , Togo, United States of America , United Kingdom , some parts of Asia , to mention but a few.

With his “Grow and help others grow” philosophy it is not surprising that he is actively involved in humanitarian works through his Babalola Idowu Foundation (BIF).

Of this, he gave further insight: “Babalola Idowu Foundation (BIF) offers scholarship opportunities to less privileged, orphans, vulnerable but intelligent children that are in primary and secondary institutions across Africa to achieve their full potential.”

Warm Regards!!!

BABALOLA IDOWU DAVID.
